Thinking of You Butterfly

For today's card, I definitely got my fingers inky.  Distress Oxide Inks, smushing, and water make for a messy combination.  But, the results can be amazing.  Actually, I made several backgrounds using different colors and you'll see those in the days to come.  But for today, here is the background I created for the CAS(E) this Sketch and the Sunday Stamps challenges.

The background colors are Candied Apple, Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade.  Each layer of color was applied separately and dried between each application.  If you don't, you wind up with an ugly, muddy color that just has no future.  When I reached the point where I liked what I saw, I stopped adding colors.  I just simply like the way things just happen with those inks.

To make the butterfly, I first added some Fossilized Amber to a piece of watercolor paper then, stamped the butterfly from the Butterfly Basics stamp set.  I used the Butterflies Thinlits Dies by Stampin' Up! to cut it out.  The body of the butterfly is cut from Basic Black using the Simply Stamped - Butterflies Dies by Taylored Expressions. The sentiment was stamped on the strip that was cut off of the background layer and stamped in Basic Black Archival ink.  It's from the Colorful Seasons stamp set by Stampin' Up!  A few yellow sequins and it was finished.

Stamp Set:  Butterfly Basics, Colorful Season (sentiment); Distress Oxide Inks:  Candied Apple, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade (Tim Holtz by Ranger); Ink:  Basic Black Archival, Calypso Coral; Cardstock:  Calypso Coral, Watercolor Paper (Strathmore), Whisper White Thick; Other:  Butterflies Thinlits Dies, Simply Stamped - Butterflies Dies (Taylored Expressions). Stampin' Up! product unless otherwise noted.

Crafty Calendar July 15th Challenge - Theme "Anything Goes"

As mentioned in my July 1st post, we have two great sponsors for the month of July "Anything Goes" challenge at the Crafty Calendar Challenge.  I totally fell in love with this sweet Fancy Sunbonnet Cake image from Bugaboo Digi Stamps.  Doesn't that cake look scrumptious?

The little sunbonnet reminds me of the one my grandmother made for me for my hometown's centennial many years back.  I still have the dress and bonnet hanging in my closet.  Isn't it great when an image can bring back such a pleasant memory.

Stamps:  Fancy Sunbonnet Cake (Bugaboo Digi Stamps), Butterfly Basics - sentiment (Stampin' Up!), Inks:  Night of Navy (Stampin' Up!), Copic Markers; Cardstock:  Night of Navy and Whisper White (Stampin' Up!), Watercolor Paper (Strathmore); Other:  Sequins

Bold Flower

It isn't often that you can make a card fit three challenges but today I was able to accomplish that feat.  The sketch from Freshly Made Sketches, the colors from ColourQ and the theme from Stampin' Royalty all came together to give me this card.  I really like the bold look of it.

Bold Flower

Stamp Sets:  Butterfly Basics (sentiment), Fabulous Flora; Inks:  Blackberry Bliss, Melon Mambo, Old Olive; Cardstock:  Blackberry Bliss, Soft Sky, Whisper White; Other:  Ovals Collection Framelits Dies, Postage Stamp Stacklets Dies (Taylored Expressions)

Watercooler Challenges #18

It just seemed to take me forever to decide on a design for this week's Watercooler Challenge.  I loved the sketch but had no idea what colors to use.  Then, I started to hear a little voice say, "Use me! Use me!"  Before I knew it, the card was done.

I stamped the flower image from Butterfly Basics on Naturals White using Always Artichoke ink.  Then, I stamped it again on some Natural White using Rich Razzleberry ink.  I fussy cut those images and placed them on top of the first image.  I really didn't want to add more patterned paper so, I stamped the honeycomb image from Butterfly Basics onto more Naturals White and used it as one of the banners.

Stamp Set:  Butterfly Basics; Inks:  Always Artichoke, Daffodil Delight, Rich Razzleberry; Card Stock:  Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack, Naturals White, Sahara Sand; Accessories & Tools:  Circles Collection Framelits Dies, Pearl Basic Jewels, SNAIL Adhesive, Dimensionals, Stampin' Trimmer, Paper Snips

Butterfly Thank You

It's a new day.  It's a cold day.  It's another good day to stay inside and make beautiful things!  Today I actually did have to brave the cold and venture out.  Fortunately, it was a short round trip and spent mostly in the car for which I am truly grateful.

I had started this card last night but decided I needed to catch up on some sleep rather than stay up most of the night creating.  I must say it was a wise decision.  I'm well rested and finished up this card in no time given I was struggling to get it done.  I love these colors together and was please to see that Pals Paper Arts was featuring them in their current challenge.  I used the sketch from the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge.  I think they came together well, don't you?

Stamp Sets:  Butterfly Basics, Painted Petals (sentiment); Inks:  Island Indigo, Pool Party; Card Stock:  Island Indigo, Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper, Pool Party, Soft Sky, Whisper White; Accessories & Tools:  Banner Punch, Butterflies Thinlits Dies, Pearl Basic Jewels, Glue Dots, SNAIL Adhesive, Dimensionals, Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine

The colors are from the Pals Paper Arts challenge.  You can find out more HERE.
