Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #244

Hello and welcome to this week's sketch from the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.  For today's sketch, I flipped it on it's side and placed the sentiment within the frame.  I wanted to use the Downton Abbey Gilt Frame Die from Crafter's Companion for my design so flipping the sketch was a necessity.  One of the things I like about this die is that it also embosses the cardstock.  It's a new to me technique and this was my first try at it.  I think I'm going to be doing more embossing with my dies as time goes by.

What doesn't show up well in the photo, is the sparkly from the Wink of Stella Brush I applied over the sentiment.  It added a pretty simmer to the cut out piece on which I stamped the sentiment.

Stamp Sets:  Carols of Christmas (Stampin' Up!), Bells & Boughs (Stampin' Up!); Inks:  Cherry Cobbler, Garden; Dies:  Card Front Builder Thinlits Dies (Stampin' Up!), Downton Abbey Gilt Frame (Crafter's Companion); Other:  Clear Wink of Stella Brush

2018 Easel Calendar

As some of you may know, I always make new desk calendars each year for family and friends and give them as gifts at Christmas.  This year Taylored Expressions introduced the new Display Easel Dies and it's simply perfect for calendars.  They are so cute and so easy to put together.  I have lots of ideas for other ways to use the die but will share those as I make up the projects.  Something to look forward to in the new year.

The base was cut from Fresh Fig cardstock.  I cut the flowered label from The Playful Patterns - Harvest patterned paper from Taylored Expressions.  The mini calendars are from Taylored Expressions.  I have found hers to be the best and they are just the right size for the easel.  The stamp set I used is Colorful Seasons by Stampin' Up!

Although it is not easily seen in the photos, I didn't attach the flowered label.  With the little shelf, you could place one of your favorite photos and display it throughout the year or change it out as often as you like.

Today I'm entering my calendar in the "anything but a card" challenge from The Flower Challenge.  For all the challenge details and to share your project, click the image below.

The Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge - What about Christmas

Hi everyone!  It's time for another challenge from The Sisterhood of Crafters.  This week Agata is our host and it's an all about Christmas challenge.  Christmas is my favorite holiday and, while I don't really get into the spirit until after Thanksgiving, I do make my Christmas cards throughout the year just to have them all done by the time I need to send them in the mail.

For my card, I CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) a design by Pam Sparks.  You can see her card HERE.  Thanks, Pam, for the inspiration.

I love the Holiday Florals stamp set and matching dies from Taylored Expressions.  As you can see I did make a few changes.  Instead of stamping the wood grain background, I used patterned paper.  I changed the plaid embossing folder to a brick one for the red layer.  I also opted not to hear emboss on vellum as I didn't have any heavy enough to withstand the heat without scorching or curling.  Instead, I took a scrap of Sugar Cube, stamped VersaMark ink on it, added Copper Embossing Powder and once the powder was set, I cut out the word joy.  I wasn't sure it would go through the Big Shot and not crack but it worked perfectly.  And, rather than sequins, I colored some rhinestones with a Copic marker for the centers of my poinsettias.  And, I added a bit of a sprig on the lower right.  What can I say?  I stamped it, cut it and couldn't just leave it lay.

Stamp Set:  Holiday Florals; Inks:  Chocolate Chip, Pea Pod, Pear Pizzazz, Real Red, Vintage Photo; Copic Sketch Marker:  Y19 Napoli Yellow; Cardstock:  Always Artichoke, Real Red, Sugar Cube; Patterned Paper:  Playful Patterns - Harvest Paper Pack (Taylored Expressions); Other:  Brick Embossing Folder (Taylored Expressions), Copper Embossing Powder, Holiday Florals Dies (Taylored Expressions), Joy Die (Taylored Expressions), Rhinestone Basic Jewels
