Butterfly Twins

Today I combined the sketch from the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge with the colors from the CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge.  Together I think they made a very simple but pretty card.  What do you think?

Pitcher of Flowers

You know, there are just days when one shouldn't be allowed in the craft room.  Today was one of those for me.  As you can see, I've posted two pictures of the same card.  The first one doesn't have any Sahara Sand on it but is part of the color challenge at The Paper Players.  So, I had the bright idea to add it by doing just a wee bit of stamping.  Can you say not exactly the look I was going for?  Sigh...

The card base is Whisper White.  The background overlay was cut using the Triangle Screen Die from My Favorite Things.  Before I cut the oval from the Stitched Oval Stacklets Dies from Taylored Expressions, I brushed over it with some Perfect Plum ink and Mint Macaron ink using my Clarity Stencil Brushes.  After cutting the pitcher from Whisper White cardstock using the Pitcher Die, I glued it to the oval then added the flowers and leaves.  The flowers were cut from Whisper White and Perfect Plum cardstock using the Mini Bloomers Dies 2 and Petal Pop-Ups 2 Dies from Taylored Expressions.  For the leaves, I first stamped the veins onto Mint Macaron cardstock using Mint Macaron ink.  Then, I cut them out using the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies.  The sentiment is from the Anemones stamp set by Flourishes.

Here is the card after I did that wee bit of stamping with the Sahara Sand using the honeycomb image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set.  It actually doesn't look too bad but it's definitely not something I will attempt in the future.  I'm thinking make a totally new card and use the Sahara Sand for the pitcher.  What do you think?

Watercooler Wednesday Challenges #114 - Penny's Color Challenge

Color, color, color!  This week, at the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge, Penny has given us some great colors with which to work.  Of course, I had to let a butterfly flit through my design.  What you can't see well in the photo is that the butterfly is all sparkly.  I discovered a new product, well, new to me.  It's Glitter Dust and it comes in a spray and adds a very pretty iridescent shimmer to your projects.  I love it but recommend using it in a well ventilated area or wear a mask as I do.

Flowers in the Window

Can I just say, I love my Clarity Stencil Brushes!  I know, you are probably getting tired of me saying it but it's true.  They made this background so easy to create and I love how it looks.  To get the depth of color in the center I just brushed over the same area a few times.  As you can see, it only added a hint of color around the window.  The colors from the Color Throwdown Challenge made for a very pretty card, don't you think?

To start, I took a layer of Whisper White cardstock and, using those Clarity Stencil Brushes, brushed Pool Party ink until I had the just the look I wanted.  The window is cut from Whisper White using the Picture Window Die and glued it over the background wash.  The leaves are punched from Garden Green cardstock using the Bird Builder Punch.  For the flowers I used the Mini Bloomers Die 2 and cut them from Daffodil Delight, Pool Party and Real Red cardstock.  To the center of each flower I added a bit of White Blizzard nuvo Glitter Drops.  The sentiment is from the Rose Wonder stamp set and stamped using Tuxedo Black Memento ink.

The dies I used are from Taylored Expressions.  The ink, cardstock and punch I used are from Stampin' Up!  Also, my card was a CASE (Copy And Share Everything) of one done by Jean Manis.

Thinking of You

Finally, after a couple of weeks of gray skies, the sun is shining and the sky is blue.  Sunshine makes me happy.  Another thing that makes me happy is combining two of my favorite sketch challenges, Freshly Made Sketches and CAS Colours & Sketches, to come up with this simple thinking of you card to add to my note card stash.  As you can see I flipped the sketch and don't you think those colors are so pretty together. 

One of my newest acquisitions is Stamping Mask Paper.  It makes stenciling so much easier as it's sticky on both sides but not the kind of sticky that is permanent so, when you are done, you simply peel it off.  For the two lower squares, I used the Stamping Mask Paper and cut out two die-cuts using the Postage Stamp Stacklets Dies.  This gave me a stencil that I positioned onto a layer of Whisper White.  With my Clarity Stencil Brushes, I brushed Pear Pizzazz ink across the stencil until I had the depth of color I wanted.  When I was done, I simply peeled off the Stamping Mask Paper.

The third square is cut from Wisteria Wonder using the Postage Stamp Stacklets Dies.  The little flower is cut from So Saffron using the Bloomers 4 Dies as is the small black center of the flower.  The little sprigs are cut from Pear Pizzazz using the Flower Box Springs & Flowers Dies.  The sentiment is from the Sheltering Tree stamp set and stamped using Tuxedo Black Memento ink.

The Basic Black, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron, Whisper White, Whisper White Thick and Wisteria Wonder cardstock are from Stampin' Up! as is the Pear Pizzazz ink.  The dies I used are all from Taylored Expressions.

Happy Birthday

Since my birthday is tomorrow, I treated myself to a class at Taylored Expressions this afternoon.  It was all about using the Clarity Stencil Brushes.  It was one of the best classes I've attended in quite some time.  I tell you, I am so thrilled with the way you can blend with them that I recommend everyone getting their own set.  There are so many ideas floating around in my head that I can't wait to get started on some new projects.

Since the colors fit the challenge so well, I've entered my card in this week's Color Throwdown Challenge.  The two inks used on the card are Cookie Monster and Lemon Meringue.  When they blended together, the green line was formed.  The sentiment is a single stamp called Graphic Greetings Birthday and stamped using Oreo Cookie ink.  The candles and flames were die-cuts that were attached to the layer, colored over and then removed to leave the white candles on the card.

You're in My Thoughts

Some much to do and so little time in which to do it.  My post is short and sweet today but I wanted to share this pretty card I made for The Paper Players Challenge and the Sunday Stamps Challenge.  My Wink of Stella Brush kind of sprung a leak so there is plenty of shimmer on the flower.

Hello Baby

It isn't often that I can combine three of my favorite challenges and come up with a sweet little card.  But, Just Us Girls, CAS(E) this Sketch and The Paper Players challenges worked very well together.

Another thing I don't often do is make baby cards.  I'm not sure why because I loved creating this one.

Bunny Lineup

What fun it was to make these colorful, cheerful bunnies.  It's snowing here today so they are definitely the bright spot in my day.  And, because, I designed this for the Retro Rubber Challenge, my stamp set had to be a year older or older.  Crazy about You fits the bill as it was introduced in the 2015 Occasions Catalog.  It's a great sentiment stamp set.

CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #209

It's so exciting to be able to share with you that I was selected to be a Guest Designer for the month of February with the CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge.  I love challenges and to be asked to design for them for a month is such an honor.  This week it's a color challenge with some of my favorite colors.

The flowers were cut using the Tattered Florals Die by Tim Holtz.  I used Cherry Cobbler, Rose Red and Sweet Sugarplum for the flowers.  The branches were cut from Smoky Slate using the Leafy Branch Die also by Tim Holtz.  I attached them to the Whisper White mat layer using Tombow Multipurpose Glue.  The white buttons each have a piece of Linen Thread threaded through them then, they were attached to the center of the flowers using Glue Dots.  The blossoms were attached using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The sentiment is from the Jar of Love stamp set and stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  To the layer I also added three Sweet Sugarplum Fancy Frost Sequins.  For the finishing touch I sprayed the card with Radiant Rain Shimmering ICE Mist by Splash of Color.  The mat layer was attached to a Whisper White Thick card base using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The Shimmering Mist doesn't show up well in the photo so here is a close up to give you an idea of what it looks like.  If you click on the image below, it will open it up so you can get a better view of how pretty and shimmery the flowers look.

Birthday Wishes

Pretty colors, great sketch, a wee bit of watercoloring and what you do you get?  A clean and simple birthday card.  It's an easy card to make which is something I'm thankful for as a headache does not allow for long periods of creativity.

Watercooler Wednesday Challenges #98

Kath picked some great colors for her color challenge this week at Watercooler Wednesday Challenges.  I didn't have any silver paper so I cut out the flower from the Sunshine Wishes Dies, covered it with VersaMark and heat embossed it with Silver Embossing Powder.  I also dug out my retired Square Lattice Embossing Folder and used it for the first time in quite a while.

When I saw the colors for the current challenge at The Paper Players, I knew my card would fit theirs' as well.  A silver flower and gold butterflies all on white make for a pretty card, don't you think?

Joy

Today in Iowa, it is a cold, blustery one.  But, the sun is shining brightly and the sky is blue.  It's a good day to stay in where it is warm and work on Christmas gifts I still need to finish.

I took a break from gift making and made this card.  I combined the colors from CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge and the sketch from the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge.  I think they came together well.

But, now, it's back to getting those gifts done.  Time is running out!

Layered Birthday

Usually, I have a hard time putting together a card using the colors in the current ColourQ Challenge.  But, for some wonderful reason, this card came together quite well.  I used two different embossing folders to give the card some texture.  It's a cheerful card, don't you think?

Watercooler Wednesday Challenges #93

It's time for a color challenge and Deborah has chosen some good ones for the Watercooler Wednesday Challenges.  In October I attended a local event and took a shaker card class.  Although I've made a couple of shaker cards, it wasn't until I took this class and found I rather like creating them.  The new Foam Adhesive Strips introduced in the current Annual Catalog make it easy to create shaker cards.  The form strips are just the right width.

Color Me Beautiful Challenge #3

Today is the last day of the current challenge at Color Me Beautiful so I had to get my card finished, photoed and posted.  Whew!  Be sure to visit the Color Me Beautiful Blog to see the other great creations using the current color scheme.  We were challenged to use at least three of the following four colors:  Lucky Limeade, Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise and Rich Razzleberry.  This is the card I made using all of the colors.
